The challenge

My role was to rethink all the user interface and user experience from the perspective of mobile first approach. Until that time the previous meinUnterricht version didn't support mobile. The team and I reimagined the whole user journey from meinUnterricht to make it simpler, easier and faster to use. We had 8 months to develop a brand new Mobile Web App and then adapt to large screens – to be launched in time for the educational fair that happened in Stuttgart – Didacta 2017.

I worked side-by-side with the product manager and engineers to plan a timeline that allayed for pixel-pushing, user-testing and unplanned roadblocks.

Under this circunstances, I was able to:

  • Create quick sketches of the flow that I ran by the product manager and engineesr for tech constraints, (giving the engineer a head start to begin coding the general layout and interactions)
  • Design low-fidelity mockups and synced with the product manager and engineers to begin implementing the basic colour palettes and visual design
  • Iterate based on feedback from first round user-testing
  • Create high-fidelity mockups in Sketch that served as pixel-perfect reference images
  • Pushed final pre-launch beta version
  • Iterated on final user-test feedback
  • Finely release on time for the fair and audit the final implementation

Post launch

I focused on improving secondary user journeys experience, such as:

  • Registration process – Reducing the steps that the users need to register themselves.
  • Upgrade process – Make it clearer and simpler between types of users and memberships.
  • Attachments – Offer the choice to download attachments (.zip, .mp3, .doc) that belong to the material.
  • Sharing documents – Improving the experience on sharing materials.
  • Collection – A big revamp on how the users use the collection feature.
